Austin Lance is a lecturer at the University of Tennessee Department of Management with focus in both the MBA and Undergraduate Business Programs. He is President of Lance Associates, a management consulting business helping clients improve results by resolving strategic, operational and organizational challenges. He is a certified coach, trainer and speaker with the John Maxwell Team. He brings strong leadership and management expertise to clients from his 44 years in business, consulting and teaching.
Austin retired in 2009 as an Executive and Officer of International Paper Corporation, where he was VP/GM of a Global Foodservice Packaging Division. He began his career with the Papers Group of International Paper in 1995. Prior to Foodservice Packaging, he held positions as VP/GM Coated Papers Division, a manufacturer of catalog and publication papers, and VP/GM Converting Papers Division, a manufacturer of envelope, forms and specialty papers.
Before joining International Paper, Austin spent 22 years with Mead Corporation, serving in a variety of sales, marketing, operations , and financial positions in multiple manufacturing and distribution divisions of that Forest Products Corporation.
Austin is a member of the East Tennessee Economic Council, a Board member of Oak Ridge Chamber of Commerce, Former President of Oak Ridge Rotary, a Board member of ORBRC Foundation, a Commissioner on the City of Oak Ridge Municipal Planning Commission, a Board Member of KnoxWorx Inc. , and an Elder at Cedar Springs Presbyterian Church.
He was past board chairman of Ducart IP Foodservice, Ltd., of Ashrat, Israel , and served on the boards of the Foodservice Packaging Institute, Nextier, IDEAlliance and Envases Puros International Paper Ltda., of Bogota, Columbia.
He has served on the Strategic Long Range Planning Committee of the Envelope Manufacturers Association, the Printing and Writing Executive Committee of the American Forest Products Association, and held membership in multiple other marketing, paper industry and packaging industry associations. He holds a Degree in Accounting from the University of Tennessee, an MBA from the University of Dayton, a Paper Technology Institute Certificate from the University of Maine, and completed the International Paper Executive Marketing Program from Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University. He has received recognition and numerous awards in leadership, marketing and product innovation.
